Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Decode Label (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service. These Terms apply to all users including visitors, registered users, and product contributors.

2. Description of Service

Decode Label provides a Decode Label-powered ingredient safety analysis platform that allows users to:

• Search a database of products and view Decode Label-generated safety scores (0–10)
• Submit product labels for ingredient extraction and analysis
• Create personalised health profiles to receive customised safety alerts
• Contribute product reviews and ratings
• Chat with the Decode Label assistant about ingredients (Pro subscribers)

3. Decode Label Scores Are Not Medical Advice

Decode Label scores are computed by a rules-based scoring engine that applies published regulatory and scientific sources (FSSAI, WHO, EU, IARC and others) to the information declared on a product’s label. Artificial intelligence (Google Gemini) is used to read label images into structured data, to provide an initial assessment that some parts of the score start from, and to write plain-English explanations. The engine’s rules set limits that this assessment cannot exceed, and AI cannot remove a confirmed hazard. Scores, alerts and ingredient analyses are provided for general informational and educational purposes only.

• Scores are not medical diagnoses and do not replace the advice of a doctor, dietitian, or dermatologist.
• Individual reactions to ingredients vary. A product that scores well on Decode Label may still cause reactions in specific individuals.
• Scores are based on what the label declares, not on laboratory testing of the product. If no concern is flagged, that does not mean no hazard exists.
• Ingredient data may be incomplete, outdated, or contain OCR errors. We do not guarantee 100% accuracy.
• Regulatory approvals and scientific consensus evolve. Scores reflect data available at the time of analysis.

Ingranova Technologies Private Limited (which operates Decode Label) accepts no liability for health outcomes resulting from reliance on our safety scores.

4. User Accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You are responsible for:

• Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
• All activity that occurs under your account
• Providing accurate account information

You must notify us immediately at support@decodelabel.com if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

5. User-Submitted Content

When you submit a product, review, or ingredient correction, you:

• Confirm the product is real and the images show only product packaging (not people, locations, or unrelated content)
• Grant Decode Label a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual licence to store, display, and use the submitted content as part of the ingredient database
• Acknowledge that approved submissions become part of a shared public database visible to all users
• Accept that submitted images may be processed by Google Cloud Vision for text extraction

We reserve the right to reject, edit, or remove any submitted content without notice for any reason, including inaccuracy, spam, or violation of these Terms.

6. Prohibited Uses

You must not:

• Submit false, misleading, or fabricated product data
• Attempt to manipulate safety scores (e.g., submitting false ingredient lists)
• Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the Service without written permission
• Use the Service to harm, defame, or mislead brands, consumers, or other users
• Attempt to reverse-engineer the Decode Label models or scoring methodology
• Use the Service for commercial data harvesting without a data licensing agreement
• Create multiple accounts to circumvent scan limits or bans

7. Subscriptions & Payments

Pro (₹299/month) and Family (₹599/month) plans are billed monthly via Razorpay. All amounts are in Indian Rupees and inclusive of applicable GST.

• Free trial: Paid plans include a 7-day free trial. You will not be charged until the trial ends.
• Cancellation: You may cancel at any time. Access continues until the end of the current billing period. No prorated refunds for partial months.
• Refunds: We offer a full refund within 7 days of first payment if you are unsatisfied. Email billing@decodelabel.com.
• Price changes: We will notify you at least 30 days before any subscription price increase.

8. Intellectual Property

Decode Label's own content — its scoring methodology, written analysis, software, design elements and the Decode Label name and marks — is the property of Ingranova Technologies Private Limited. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from it without written permission.

Brand names, trademarks and product images belong to their respective owners. They are referenced or displayed for product identification, comparison, criticism and review. Decode Label does not claim ownership of third-party trademarks or images and does not imply endorsement, affiliation or sponsorship unless expressly stated.

Where Decode Label has a relationship with a brand, that brand's product, comparison and brand pages say so. At present this applies to Botani Bestie, which was founded by Decode Label's founder; its products are scored by the same published rules as every other product. Links to retailers may earn us a commission from the retailer, which is disclosed beside those links and never affects a score.

User-submitted content remains your property. By submitting, you grant us the licence described in Section 5.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Indian law, Ingranova Technologies Private Limited shall not be liable for:

• Any health outcomes resulting from reliance on our ingredient safety scores
• Inaccuracies in Decode Label-generated analysis or OCR-extracted ingredient data
• Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages of any kind
• Loss of data, profits, or business interruption

Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 3 months preceding the claim, or ₹1,000, whichever is greater.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms. You may close your account at any time via the account settings page. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately, and your personal data will be handled as described in our Privacy Policy.

11. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. Before initiating legal proceedings, you agree to attempt good-faith resolution by emailing legal@decodelabel.com.
